Youku’s ‘Hidden Love,’ a romantic youth drama starring Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan, secured the top spot in the 2023 Global Chinese Drama Rankings. Zhao Lusi, the lead actress, also claimed the title of the most popular talent in 2023, surpassing Xiao Zhan’s longstanding popularity outside China.

Airing between 20 June and 6 July, ‘Hidden Love’ gained momentum in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, and internationally as it was distributed by Netflix. Zhao Lusi’s popularity soared after being announced as WeTV Global Ambassador in Thailand, solidifying her presence in Southeast Asia.

Notable series in the 2023 Global Chinese Drama Rankings include ‘Lost You Forever’ (Tencent Video), ‘The Love You Give Me’ (Tencent Video), ‘Mysterious Lotus Casebook’ (iQIYI), and ‘Fireworks Of My Heart’ (MangoTV), alongside five other Youku productions: ‘Till The End Of The Moon’, ‘When I Fly Towards You’, ‘The Starry Love’, ‘Back From The Brink’ and ‘Legend of Anle’.

A key highlight is child actor Cui Yixin, contributing an estimated 30% of fan engagement to ‘The Love You Give Me,’ ranking third in 2023 Global Chinese Drama Rankings. Actress Bai Lu, fourth on the 2023 Global Chinese Drama Talent Rankings, is making a mark internationally, starring in three popular drama series this year: ‘Till The End Of The Moon’ (Youku), ‘Only For Love’ (MangoTV), and ‘Story of Kunning Palace’ (iQIYI).

V-Pulse’s 2023 rankings are based on fan interactions on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, observing over 20,000 daily data points in its research model.

V-Pulse is now in its open-beta stage with free-to-use features to compare talents and Chinese drama series internationally and in emerging markets, such as in Southeast Asia.
